Jeff's Performance Horse Training

Jeff

Jeff Avaritte, previously from Tenessee, now makes his home in Austin, Colorado. He is a quiet man with a lot of presence. He also has a lot of know how.

Jeff is known from California to "back east" for his knowledge and his wisdom about training great horses. Horses that do not live their lives in an arena. He takes his horses to the "hills". He believes that to make a well rounded horse, that is comfortable in many surroundings, you have to expose him to lots of different things.

He starts all his horses basically the same way. He sacks them out and gets them used to things flapping around. He puts a rope around the pasterns and desensitizes to the feel. Once they are used to that, he hobbles them.

Then its off to the round pen to learn how to carry a rider, but they don't stay there long. They learn some basics and then it is off to the arena.

Here they learn more basics and how to lope circles. Jeff says it relaxes them and when they get excited or frightened, then the circles are a happy place.

Jeff takes his colts to the hills once they are ready and they learn to go over logs, splash through streams and gain balance by going up and down hills.

Nothing is on a time table, everything comes as the horse is ready for it.

As an accomplished rope horse and performance horse trainer, Jeff knows that there are no "90 day wonders" and he is ready to take the time to make them a great all around horse.
